About the WIC Network
The WIC Network is hosted by The University of Queensland’s School of Public Health First Nations Cancer and Wellbeing Research Program in partnership with the International Agency for Research on Cancer, and in collaboration with representatives from networks formed in each country.
The aim of the WIC Network is to provide a forum to connect researchers, cancer survivors and carers, health professionals, cancer care services and providers, policy makers and Indigenous communities and organisations across the globe with the aim of improving cancer outcomes for Indigenous people and their communities.
The WIC Network celebrates Indigenous cultures and provides an invaluable opportunity for members to network and build partnerships with people from around the globe.
How the WIC Network began
The World Indigenous Cancer Conference (WICC 2016) was held in Brisbane Australia in 2016 and was the first of its kind. For an inaugural conference the energy, enthusiasm for discussion, and willingness for delegates to participate in the full program, supported the value in holding an international conference of this type. From this there was a clear call to continue collaborating and establish a World Indigenous Cancer (WIC) Network of people who are dedicated to improving cancer outcomes for Indigenous peoples around the world.
